The College's Kent Student Education Association (KSEA) hosted "Read Across America," the nation's largest celebration of reading at the Student Center Ballroom on March 30. More than 125 children from the cities of Kent, Stow and Streetsboro, with the help of 80 volunteers, participated in the joy of reading with Dr. Seuss books and enjoyed crafts and other activities.
The event was spearheaded by the KSEA executive board, including Danielle Sherritt, current KSEA president and OSEA chair elect. Three executive board members played the part of the Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and 2. Dr. Seuss guest readers included, KSU President Lester Lefton, College of EHHS Interim Dean Donald Bubenzer and Honors College Dean Donald Williams.
The event ended with a birthday celebration for the Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss. Each child received a "Read Across America" T-shirt, paperback books donated by a regional book publisher, parent tip guide and activity booklet. Please watch for this exciting event next year.
