Our faculty devotes their work lives to the initial and continuing professional development of teachers, administrators, curriculum and instructional specialists, non-school leaders, and scholars. While we respect the traditions of our profession, there is little that is traditional about our approach.
Our programs are oriented toward the study of past practices, the consideration of alternative strategies to confront current problems, and the development of best practice options. The faculty is forward-looking, dynamic, and academically aggressive; they encourage risk-taking; and they are well prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.
Among the specific commitments discussed in our mission statement are ones related to:
- Student learning and development
- research and publication
- collaboration
- participative democracy and shared decision making
- service to the University and to the profession
- diversity
